My name is Ravi (a.k.a. BBC, NRK). And every time I try this, I realize that I suck when it comes to “about me” pages. The traditional wisdom for such a page goes: introduce yourself, talk about your expertise, talk about how you are helping the audience and how to contact you. Let me try that then.
I sincerely believe that what I do is what defines me. I work for a large multinational company, currently managing technology. A PHB if you will. Prior to that, I completed my MBA at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and obtained my bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Looking back, my time at each of my stints has been pretty busy packing in a lot of experience. Studies have always been more about developing hobbies than actual course work. During my engineering, when I first got my hands on real networked computers, I helped run the student computing facility, in addition to managing the department website. This continued into my management years, where I ran the institute web portal, and built the first student email and GNU/Linux based proxy service. College was also a time for sports - Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Table tennis and Ball Badminton among others.
Work has given me broad experience across a number of functions in a large business. I have written code, driven projects, audited IT & financials and led teams in compliance audits. Again a broad set of activities, just for the richness of the experience.
I believe my experience gives me a unique point of view about technology and society in general - a point of view you will find on my blog. Add to it, a voracious appetite for all things news, about sums up my daily drive.
Oh, I do other stuff too. I like traveling - have kept it up for six years in the course of my work and almost 12 since I left home for college. I love photography. Am the proud owner of a Nikon D70. Music - heavier the better. Love the oldies - Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Ozzy and Pink Floyd. Also some of the more alternative like Atreyu, KoRn, Godsmack, Disturbed, Anathema, Staind, Tool, Type I Negative etc. Read a lot, in spurts - currently on epic fantasy. And sometimes I write - with a little more formality than my blog.
Not quite sure what you will find here. Squarely against common wisdom this site is not a scratch for one itch. It is a bit of everything. So hopefully, you will find it interesting enough to stick around.
